Halal Food Distribution in the Bronx, NY

Distributing Halal Food for families in need in the Parkchester and Sterling neighborhoods

Youth Island New York, The Turkish Cultural Center New York, Embrace Relief, New York State Senator Luis R. Sepulveda, Parkchester Family Pharmacy, and American Bangladeshi Welfare Organization USA Inc. collaborated to distribute halal food packages to muslim families facing hunger in the Bronx in New York City.

Nearly one in four residents in the Bronx faced food insecurity compared to the one in ten people in the city and statewide. Moreover, there have been a tremendous number of requests to Senator Sepulveda’s office from residents in the Parkchester and Sterling neighborhoods to do halal food distributions.

According to New York State Senator Luis R. Sepulveda’s office, The residents in these areas are mostly immigrants and have a high volume of unemployment rate due to COVID-19. The population is largely Bengali and Muslim, which is why halal food was distributed.

We hope more institutions, individuals involve in these kind of activities and the lives of families in need change in a meaningful way soon. @nysensepulveda@embracerelief@youthislandny
