After an unprecedented Fall semester, Youth Islanders were refreshed with a virtual winter camp focusing on their spiritual life. Each day of camp was filled with daily lectures by guest speakers: Dr. Z. Soltes, Leonard Petlakh, Dr. Craig Considine, who gave students an Islamic perspective based on their non-Muslim beliefs. Students had the chance to interact with the speakers and learn about their Muslim identity from other faith groups.
Students learned about the core principles of Islam by discussing with other expert speakers. Attendees were also entertained with daily Netflix movies and TED talks.
By engaging with speakers from other faith groups, discussing with each other, and watching Netflix movies and TED talks, students showed confidence in their communication and were exposed to important issues surrounding our communities. Such interaction increased students’ self-esteem and boosted their morals by preparing them for their next academic semester.
